In January 2016, Dr. Martinelli successfully passed the exam to become recognized as a Board Certified Specialist in Equine Sports Medicine (American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilatation ACVSMR).

Dr. Martinelli was invited to organize the day long Session on Equine Lameness to be held at the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) Meeting in San Diego October 2014.  Dr. Martinelli spoke during the session, giving an "Overview of Equine Upper Limb Lameness", stressing the history, physical examination, video analysis and imaging he uses on a daily basis at California Equine Orthopedics to solve difficult lameness cases.  He invited speakers from the Northwest, East Coast, France and the Southern California Racetracks to round out the session.  Dr. Martinelli then led the team in a panel discussion at the end of the day.

Dr. Martinelli was invited to give a paper entitled "Chondral Delamination of the Equine Distal Metacarpus" during the session on the fetlock at the ACVS meeting.

On the final day of the ACVS meeting, Dr. Martinelli was asked to organize a panel discussing the difference between the lame and neurologic horse with speakers from the East Coast and Europe.

Dr. Martinelli was also invited to be an instructor in a pre-ACVS laboratory on MRI.  He spoke on "MRI of the Equine Foot".

Dr. Martinelli was invited to give three posters at the 2014 Conference of The Orthobiologic Institute (TOBI) in Las Vegas June 2014.  The posters were titled as follows:

"Bisphosphonates for Equine Bone Injury"

"Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy for Equine Lameness"

"Biochemical Characterization of Equine Autologous Conditioned Serum (IRAP)

Dr. Martinelli was invited to give a paper on "How to Inject the Cervical and Thoracolumbar Articulations" at the annual meeting of the American Association of Equine Practitioners in December 2012.

Dr. Martinelli was invited to speak at the 3rd annual conference of The Orthobiologic Institute (TOBI) in Beverly Hills in July 2012.  The Institute is particularly interested in managing human orthopedic problems through the use of regenerative medicine such as stem cells, PRP and other non-traditional methods. The organizers wanted Dr. Martinelli to speak about his experience treating horses in a similar manner, particularly with IRAP.  While IRAP was originally developed in Germany for use in people, it has not been used much in human orthopedics in the United States.  The attendees were orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists, both private practitioners and academicians from all over the world.  They were especially interested in Dr. Martinelli's assertion that horses do not experience any "placebo affect", making them excellent candidates to determine whether a treatment has any beneficial affect (ie if a horse returns to successful racing or showjumping, the treatment would appear to have a benefical affect...)

Dr. Martinelli was invited to speak at a Human Regenerative Medicine Research Meeting in Cleveland on Aug 22-23, 2011.  The meeting focused on Innovations in Cell-based Regenerative Therapies for many devastating human diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Parkinson’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), and Multiple Sclerosis.  The meeting organizers were interested in talks about the dog, cat and horse as models of disease for Regenerative Therapies.  Dr. Martinelli was honored by being asked to discuss how certain equine orthopedic conditions could help researchers gain insight into some human orthopedic diseases.

Dr. Martinelli was invited to be part of a small workshop on using MRI to prevent condylar fractures in racehorses held in Saratoga, NY.  A dozen researchers and clinicians from around the US and UK met near historic Saratoga Racetrack in early August 2011 to discuss orthopedic injuries in race- and sporthorses.  The meeting was sponsored by Hallmarq Veterinary Imaging, Inc, the company that developed the standing MRI in use at CEO and at other facilities around the US and the world.

Dr. Martinelli was invited to give a seminar to Orthopedic Researchers at Henry Ford Bone and Joint Center in August 2011.  Dr. Martinelli worked with this laboratory while finishing his PhD in joint disease during the late 1990’s.  More recently, he collaborated with one of the researchers there to investigate the use of IRAP in horses.

Dr. Martinelli spoke at the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) meeting on September 1, 2011.  He spoke on complementary methods for treating equine lameness, particularly those of the topline and hind end.

In June 2011 Drs. Martinelli, Rantanen, Grant and Walker gave 3 days of lecture to California Veterinarians at the Pacific Veterinary Conference held in Anaheim, CA.  The topics included diagnosis and treatment of lameness and neurologic conditions.  The focus was on how to integrate the history and physical examination with the imaging and further diagnostic process.  Treatments covered included regenerative medicine, surgery and complementary therapies such as acupuncture and pulsed electromagnetic therapy (PEM).  Most importantly, however, the emphasis was on outcome (ie how the horses did following diagnosis and treatment).

In January 2011 Dr. Martinelli was invited to attend the 4th Annual European MRI Conference held in Chamonix, France.  As one of the organizers of the event, Dr. Martinelli gave a talk on treatment of injuries in the foot of the horse following diagnosis with MRI, emphasizing what the outcomes were.  In addition, Dr. Martinelli served as moderator for the group discussions that followed and as a reviewer/mentor for the younger presenters.
